Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, the organizing institute for the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2027, has released the official information brochure alongside a revised schedule for online registration. As per the updated notification, the application window via the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) portal will now commence on September 12, 2026, replacing the previously announced date of September 5, 2026.

IIT JAM is a national-level entrance test for candidates seeking admission to M.Sc., Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree, and other post-bachelor degree programmes at Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), as well as integrated Ph.D. programmes at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, IISERs, and NITs.

IIT JAM 2027 Eligibility Criteria

• Educational Qualification: Candidates must hold an undergraduate degree from a recognized university or institute. Candidates appearing for their final year undergraduate examinations in 2027 are also eligible to apply.
• Age Limit: There is no age restriction for appearing in the IIT JAM 2027 examination.
• Nationality: Both Indian and foreign nationals are eligible to apply.

Examination Pattern

IIT JAM 2027 will be conducted as a Computer-Based Test (CBT) lasting 3 hours across designated test centers nationwide. The exam includes 7 subjects: Biotechnology, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics, Physics, and Economics.

• Total Questions: 60 Questions
• Question Types: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.

Steps to Apply for IIT JAM 2027

1. Navigate to the official portal at jam.iitkgp.ac.in.
2. Access the JOAPS portal link and register by creating a new user account with a valid email ID and mobile number.
3. Log in using the Enrollment ID / Email ID and Password sent to your registered credentials.
4. Fill in personal details, qualifying degree marks, preferred test paper(s), and examination city preferences.
5. Upload scanned copies of required documents including candidate photo, signature, and category/PwD certificate (if applicable).
6. Pay the requisite application fee via Net Banking, Debit/Credit Card, or UPI.
7. Review the application preview thoroughly before submitting, and save the generated confirmation page for future reference.
