OSSC Food Safety Officer Syllabus 2026 Overview

The Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC) has released the detailed syllabus and exam pattern for the Food Safety Officer (FSO) recruitment 2026. This recruitment drive aims to fill 84 vacancies for Group-B posts. Candidates preparing for this examination must align their study plan with the official syllabus to excel in the competitive selection process.

OSSC FSO Exam Pattern 2026

The selection for the OSSC Food Safety Officer post consists of a Main Written Examination followed by a qualifying Computer Skill Test. The written exam is divided into two papers:

  • Paper-I (Composite Paper): Covers General Studies, Mathematics, Computer Application (Theory), and English. (100 Marks, 1.5 Hours)
  • Paper-II (Technical Paper): Focuses on Food Safety Act & Rules and Chemistry. (100 Marks, 1.5 Hours)

Key Note: Paper-II includes a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer. The Computer Skill Test is qualifying in nature and carries 50 marks.

Detailed Syllabus Breakdown

Paper-I: Composite Paper

This paper tests the candidate's general knowledge and logical aptitude. Key areas include Indian History, Geography, Polity, Economy, General Science, Arithmetic, Geometry, Algebra, English Grammar, and Basic Computer Theory.

Paper-II: Technical Paper

This section is crucial for merit. It covers the Food Safety and Standards Act, rules, regulations, licensing, food hygiene, and food chemistry (carbohydrates, proteins, enzymes, food preservation, and analytical parameters).

Preparation Strategy

  • Focus on the technical section as it contains negative marking.
  • Practice previous year question papers to understand the pattern.
  • Take regular mock tests to improve time management for the 3-hour written examination.
  • Ensure you are proficient in basic MS Office tools for the qualifying Computer Skill Test.
